What does it mean to "grow up"?
I'm 42, and I finally figured out what growing up means. Yep, I'm a late bloomer...
Why should you care? This will help you improve your life and avoid the mistakes I've made.
Growing up = The level of responsibility you take over your life.
Your life is the result of your actions, habits, beliefs, and the cards you've been dealt.
You can change only one side of this equation, and it's not the hand you've been dealt...
The more areas of your life you take responsibility for, and work to improve the more "grown up" you are.Responsibility for your health, wealth, family, relationships, and anything else in your life.
It sucks. You'll have to handle horrible things like bureaucracy, insurance, future savings, and other yucky stuff. but not doing this, is a guarantee you'll have a hard life.
You don't have to do these things yourself, you are responsible for them being taken care of. Hire experts and get help.
"Why can't someone just do it for us?!" I complained many times to my wife. "Because that's life, that's part of being an adult."
Shit, she's right, again 🤦🏻♂️
Look at the happiest and most successful people you know.
Do they sit and do nothing the entire day? Or do they take initiative, create opportunities and make their own future?
Weightlifting is great for building strength, and slowing down aging. Responsibility is lifting heavy loads but for your life.
It's good for you.
Start carrying loads, and gradually increase your ability to stack on heavier loads. Gradually!
Make sure you’re not injuring yourself by overloading.
Look at any area of your life where you're not 100% happy. Ask yourself: "Where am I not taking enough responsibility here?"
Your finances aren't managed properly? Own it.
Educate yourself, and book a call with a professional or a friend to guide you.
Struggling with the kids?
Take responsibility.
Start doing a single thing differently. Talk with your partner or their teacher about what you can do better.
Don't have the friends and relationships you want?
Who's responsible for that? Yep, you.
Growing up means shifting your mindset from:
"Life is happening to me", to "What can I do to improve the situation."
Some people figure this out when they're 10, it took me 40 years, others never figure this out. It's never too late to start taking more responsibility for your life.
Do it!
- No one else will do it for you.
- It's the only path to having a happy life.
- You'd be amazed how much happier, more capable, and stronger you'll feel by starting to practice "weightlifting" in your life.
